Well, while I said we probably would not post again until we are actually on the the road I thought I would throw in a few tidbits about our preparations.
Nancy has been busy getting the Cedar Creek restocked with provisions. We removed most all of the food when we got back from Florida in March and moved them into the house. Now, she is taking boxes of crackers, cereal, refrigerator and freezer stuff, paper plates and cups, and who knows what else back.
Me? OK..... I have a tendency to overstock tools, spare parts and accessories for any extended trip. All of my add-ons go into the Volvo, not the camper. I have more than ample storage space in the beast. I've packed all sorts of relays, fuses, lights, oil, antifreeze, filters, fan bets along with wrenches, electrical meters, vehicle cleaning supplies, fuel for the generator and another 400 pounds of anything that will fit in the boxes and compartments that just might be needed. If I should need any of this stuff it will probably be on the bottom of a box and I will forget what box requiring going through everything.
All of Oscar's vet papers, Happy Hip treats, dog food, Greenies and toys are packed. We have fresh supplies of all prescription meds so no refills will be needed en-route. We both got hair cuts on Saturday (short) so we should make it without getting too shaggy along the way. The little things like these can take some time to organize and are often overlooked when getting stuff together.
The RV is truly a second house and the Volvo a second workshop. The niece thing is we do not need to unpack at every stop and we get to sleep in our own bed every night.
We are fortunate to have our son, who is a Hanover County Deputy Sheriff, looking after the house. His daily patrol route includes our neighborhood. A man with a gun and badge does give us some additional security. I know if I was looking to break into a house that it would not be one with a silent security alarm/cameras and a cop. Besides, most anything of real value is either locked up elsewhere or with us.
I still need to mow before we pull out and get my clothes packed. Having a washer and dryer in the RV really helps reduce the volume of clothing you need to take.
Enough drivel for now...... six days before launch and counting down.
