Hello,
I'm Randy. Nancy is my spouse. We have a miniature Dachshund named Oscar. Oscar's picture will be our Avatar on Google.
We don't want to bore anyone with "technical details" but if you should want to see more about who we are and what we are driving and living in as our RV you will find the script below. You may, of course, skip this part and just follow future posting about our trip.
Both Nancy and I are retired "Baby Boomers" that have a long bucket list of things we want to do. Near the top of the list is our desire to visit 49 of our 50 states and parts of Canada in our RV. If there was a bridge to Hawaii we would make it all 50 states. Over the past few years we have visited most of the east coast states but never ventured any further west than Kansas.
Our RV is a 2009 Cedar Creek 5th wheel with three slide out rooms, central air conditioning and heat, satellite TV, fireplace, central vacuum, washer & dryer, dishwasher, convection microwave, induction cook-top, gas/electric refrigerator/freezer, solar panels and generator. We are fully self-contained and equipped to stay in any location we choose - even if there are no hookups for power, water or sewer.
Our tow vehicle is a 2004 Volvo VNL670 that has been fully converted, re-titled and registered as a MotorHome. Inside the Volvo we have twin bunks, refrigerator, microwave, sink with running water, toilet, generator, power inverter, air conditioner and heat independent from the engine. We have shortened the truck by removing one of the two rear axles and added custom surround sound with satellite radio, a touch screen PC, GPS, 4 cameras, two monitors, CB, Ham radio, TV & DVD and very comfortable fully adjustable air ride seating with massage and heat. Should the need arise, we can use the Volvo independent of the trailer as our RV accommodations.
We carry a Club Car golf cart on the bed of the truck that provides transportation in RV parks and allowed neighborhood roads. But, we are leaving it behind on this trip since it takes time to unload/load and we are not staying in any one place long enough to make that extra work worthwhile.
The truck is powered by a 12.1 liter diesel engine delivering 465 horse power and 1,650 foot-pounds of torque. Twin 150 gallon fuel tanks can allow us to go up to 3,000 miles before refueling. Air bag suspension on the truck, cab and seats make for a comfortable ride.
The adventure we will be writing about starts on June 15, 2014, in Richmond, Virginia, with a 5,000 mile loop that will take us through Tennessee, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia before returning to Richmond. Yep - that is 16 states not counting Virginia,

We hope our friends and family will follow us on this Blog as we post updates, photos and stories related to our trip.
